Themes include Centrum, Activity of Pieces, Positional Feeling, Plan in the Opening, Initiative etc. According to Anatoli Karpov, it is a legendary book, which overtook the time. Issak Lipnitski was very strong player and shared 2nd place in the 18th USSR championship ahead of Smyslov, Petrosian, Geller, Averbakh. Unfortunately, later he got ill and passed away in 1959, only 36 years old. Position in the second edition are tested by computer and instead of an article on Ragozin defence (which is out of date now) is newly added a chapter with 11 Lipnitskys selected games with his own annotations.
