Strong tournament in Mannheim (19th German congress) was stopped early due to the World war. Aljechin won with 9,5 of 11, ahead of Vidmar, Spielmann, Breyer, Marshall, Reti, Janowski, Bogoljubov, Tarrasch etc., 18 players. The book is published on August 1, exactly 100 years after the breaking off of the tournament and contains about 370 games, many never published before, many with notes - all 94 known games from the main tournament (of 99 played), all 90 known games from the lower sections, the games from the tournaments played by the interned players in Baden Baden and Triberg, plus other games played in consultation or by correspondence. Almost half the book, 250+ pages, tells the history of the event and stories of 40 Russian and East players who were at Mannheim playing (Alekhine, Romanovski, Bohatirchuk, Rabinovich etc), also Alekhine's story has some surprises. Includes a lot of information from chess columns and archives, not available from other sources. Many photos, indexes.
