Vladimir Makogonov, 1904-1993, was strong player of Baku, Azerbaijan. He participated in 8 Soviet championships. In 1940s, Makogonov was one of the world's strongest players. According to Chessmetrix, he would reached rating 2735 in October 1945. Makogonov was also known as theoretician and trainer. The book contains detailed biography, 86 games, of which 55 are well annotated, career record, photos, indexes of players and openings. First edition of this book was published in 1991 within so-called Small Black Series, this is the Second edition, enlarged and updated. The author was Makogonov's pupil.
