Paul Felix Schmidt, 1916-1984, was a strong Estonian-German master. Schmidt was together with Keres the best Estonian player in 1930s - their match ended +3 -3 = 1 in 1936. Schmidt won tournaments in Tallinn 1935, Pjarnu 1937, Bad Oeynhausen 1941 (with Klaus Junge). He was was 2x Estonian champion, took part in Olympiads Stockholm 1937 and Buenos Aires 1939. He lived in Germany since 1939, later in the USA. Schmidt was one of the world's best players in early 1940s. The book written by Paul Schmidt's daughter and chess historian Michael Negele includes Schmidt's detailed life and chess biography and brings a lot of information that has not yet been available, including almost 200 photographs and illustrations, of which many are published for the first time.
