Title: Napier - The Forgotten Chessmaster |
|
William Ewart Napier (1881-1952) is really a bit forgotten, especially in Europe. He was very strong and aggressive player. Though he took part in tournaments only very young - within 1895-1905 - he won the Beauty-price in all three int. tournaments, where he took part (Monte Carlo 1902, Hannover 1902, Cambridge Springs 1904). He won in his short career against Chigorin, Steinitz and more than 10times against Marshall. All his 321 known games are listed (many with detailed annotations). Also some tens illustrative games by other players and a good material on American chess history. Index of players and openings.
