Yuri Averbakh, born 1922, belonged to the strongest Soviet players. For example, he won Soviet championship in 1954, ahead of Korchnoi, Petrosian and others. He was also a journalist, trainer and arbiter. As a a long-time member of the board of the Soviet chess federation, he had access to information that were not available for most players. This book contains his personal memories about chess life in the Soviet Union inclusive a lot of information that were not published earlier. The book contains no games, name index in the end.
