After 1.e4, Black favours the Caro-Kann where he analyzes all of White's possibilities (3.e5, 3.exd5, 2.Nc3 + 3.Nf3, etc.) and in the classic variant 2.d4 d5 3.Nc3 continues with 3..dxe4 4.Nxe4 Nf6.
