Chess and life memories of Lubosh Kavalek from his early youth until the 1990s. Kavalek worked on the book between 2015 and 2021 together with writer Jan Novak, who edited the book for print after Kavalek's death. Lubomir (Lubosh) Kavalek, 1943-2021, one of the best Czechoslovak players ever, 2x Czechoslovak champion (first in 1962 at age 19), 3x US champion. He emigrated from Czechoslovakia in 1968, was a world-class player for many years, and was a second to Bobby Fischer, Nigel Short and Jan Timman. He also became famous for his chess columns, which he wrote for about 30 years for the Washington Post and Huffington Post. Jan Novak, a Czech-American writer, is known for example for his book on Milan Kundera, was a long-time friend of Kavalek. A similar book was published by New in Chess under the title Life at Play, but it is not the same book. While Life at Play includes Kavalek's games, this book is without games, but contains much more of Kavalek's memories.
