The first volume of Stahlberg's life and chess biography, covering the period from 1908 to the 1939 Buenos Aires Olympiad, contains ca 500 annotated games, tournament crosstables, ca 500 photos and illustrations, career record, and several indexes. It also provides interesting information about the atmosphere of chess life in the good old days and Stahlberg's opponents. Gideon Stahlberg (1908-1967) was for more than three decades one of the best chess players in the world and also (together with Ulf Andersson) one of the best Swedish chess players in history. Together with his compatriots Gosta Stoltz and Erik Lundin, known as the Three Musketeers, Stahlberg later elevated Sweden to chess supremacy, securing podium finishes in several Olympiads.
