Biography, a lot of information about the history of chess in the first third of the 19th century, together with annotated games of various players, problems, etc. Julius Mendheim, 1788-1836, was the first famous Berlin master and chess composer. He was a member of the Berliner Schachgesellschaft and his students included Ludwig Bledow. He wrote two books, Taschenbuch fuer Schachfreunde (Berlin, 1814) and Aufgaben fuer Schachspieler (Berlin, 1932). Both books, which contain a total of 133 problems with solutions, are reproduced here on pages 117-203.
