(Checkmate to a Chess King). GM Vlastimil Hort tells three exciting detective stories from a chess environment with unexpected solutions. None of the stories actually happened, but some of the characters are more or less similar to real chess players. The first story takes place at an Interzonal tournament in Burgas, Bulgaria, and a murder occurs during the tournament. The second story tells about Grandmaster Beduna with many side stories of characters from the Prague cafe U Novaku, where the 1931 Chess Olympiad took place. The third story is set in one place on the Czech-Polish border, where the tournament of old masters takes place. Master Karel Opocensky is a forerunner of one of the characters, and at the end of the book, as a bonus for chess players, there is the Opocensky-Alekhine game, in which the Czech master won. The book was also published is German with title Schwarzweisse Erzaehlungen.
