The book is intended for intermediate and stronger chess players and focuses on chess strategy. An overview of each chapter can be found in Figures 2 and 3. It is titled after the chapter Attacking the Strongpoint, where Zaitsev first time formulates and explains this strategic element. Grandmaster Igor Zaitsev, born in 1938, has enriched the game of chess with many new ideas. He brought several new ideas in the opening, such as the variaton of 9.h3 Bb7 10.d4 Re8, known as the Zaitsev System, or the continuation of 11.Ng5!? in the Open Spanish or 4..Nd7 5.Ng5 in the Caro-Kann. Top chess players have worked with him - Petrosian, Polugaevsky and especially Karpov, for whom he served as the main trainer in seven world championship matches. Attacking the Strongpoint is the only book Igor Zaitsev has written. It was also published in Russian under the title Ataka v silnom punkte.
