Velasco with Torre in 1977, and other materials. Carlos Torre Repetto, 1904-1978, was on the road to becoming one of the world's best chess players. For example, in 1925, at a strong tournament in Moscow, he finished fifth and won with Emanuel Lasker in a game that is published in many textbooks of tactics. Torre's opening in Queen's Pawn attack is named after him. His career was prematurely ended due to mental illness.
