The book contains around 170 photographs from the top chess scene. Almost all photographs are full-page, sometimes with brief comments. Most of the photographs show specific top players, typically when they are thinking. Fred Lucas is an excellent Dutch photographer, specialising in chess. In 2004 he became the official photographer of the Corus chess tournament in Wijk aan Zee for the first time. His photographs have been published in various chess magazines and in addition his images have appeared in prestigious newspapers such as the New York Times and the French Le Monde.
