Galina Satonina, 1905-2000, a chess-themed painter who is respected both in Russia and around the world. The book contains her biography and examples of 124 paintings and illustrations from her work, mostly full-page, with word description. She painted world champions and other famous players, from Philidor and Morphy to Fischer, Karpov and Kasparov. Some of her paintings show chess pieces, emotions and various aspects of the game. This full-color book, based on original paintings from museum and private collections, was compiled by Dr. Vladimir Kudryavtsev, who has published many tomes on national and regional visual art of the Soviet and pre-Soviet periods.
