Title: Yakov Vilner: First Ukrainian Chess Champion and First USSR Chess Composition Champion |
|
Yakov Vilner, 1899-1931, was 4x Ukrainian champion, he played several times in Soviet championships. It is said that in 1919 he saved Alexander Alekhine from being shot by writing a letter to the President of the Ukrainian People's Commissioners. So far this has been referred to as an unproven story, now the author is proving it in the book by documentary evidence. The book contains Vilner's life and chess biography, 55 deeply annotated games, all 95 of Vilner’s known problems and studies. Many photos, career record, tournament crosstables, indexes. Author Sergei Tkachenko is a GM in chess composition and chess historian. 2 pictures. Further information about the book is available at elkandruby.com
