IV (=title, index) + pages 129-380p. 590 grams. Contemporary half-cloth, spine lettered. Large 8vo (23-25 cm). Fair: binding rubbed and separated from the rest of the book. Whitened stamp of the previous owner stamp on inner cover (problem composer and collector Ilja Mikan). Title/contents pages are loose from the book-block. Text is OK, pages occasionally a little stained, occasional pencil marks. (Published in London 1879-1896, monthly. 2x real photo). LN 6138. Betts 7-25. Code #9831.

IV (=title, index) + 380p. 760 grams. Contemporary halfcloth, spine lettered. Large 8vo (23-25 cm). Complete volume, 12 numbers including title and index, no plates were published this year. Covers are not bound in. Poor: The front cover is missing. The bottom right corner (approx. 2 x 3 cm) of the first 108 pages is destroyed (see picture). However, the text is always complete. Otherwise, the text is in normal condition. (Monthly magazine, published in London between 1879 and 1896 by Leopold Hoffer, until 1888 together with J. H. Zukertort. Real photo). LN 6138. Betts 7-25. 626 pages + 1 plate (Samuel S. Boden). 1,080 grams. Later cloth, spine lettered. Ca 26 cm. Lacks title/index, otherwise complete volume, 52 numbers from 4th January to 27th December 1881. Covers are not bound in. Fair to poor: binding is OK. The first leaf is damaged, chipped and frayed around the edges, but the text is complete (picture 2). Some leaves with pages 301-324 are somewhat damaged at the bottom right edge, one has a piece ca 5 x 1.5 cm torn out (text complete). Leaves with pages 325-350 have the bottom corner ca 2 x 2 cm torn off (picture 3). Leaves with pages 621-624 have the bottom corner ca 2 x 6 cm torn off (the text is complete except for one word). Leaf 625-626 is heavily damaged, with a piece about 6 x 6 cm missing at the bottom. The missing text is loosely attached as a photocopy. Pages 617-626 are not at the end but are bound between pages 592 and 593. All other pages are OK, with no writings. (Published in London from 1877 to 1902, with some interruptions.
