Title: Pravda ob ottse |
|
(Truth About My Father) Petr (Pyotr) Izmailov, 1906-1937, around 1930 one of the best Soviet players. In 1928 he became the Russian champion. In 1929 he qualified to the USSR championship, but did not participate - according to Averbakh, he was one of the four best Soviet players at the time. Against Botvinnik he had a score of 2:0. Izmailov fell victim to Stalin's purges - he was arrested in 1936 and executed in 1937. His name was then almost erased from the Soviet chess press for more than 50 years. Peter Izmailov's biography was written by his son Nikolai, who practically did not know his father and spent years searching the archives to write his father's life story. The book, published in a small edition (allegedly 100 copies, but this is not stated in the book), contains a biography, games, fragments of games, tables of tournaments, but differs in part from the English edition by Elk and Ruby - it has been supplemented with information obtained by the members of ALSHIS
