In 1969 Ivan Khabinets, a Ukrainian player and coach, set himself the task of playing games where he would checkmate his opponent's King on every square of the board. So from a1 to h8. He also set himself the task of trapping his opponent's queen on every square. In both cases, this is both colours, which would be 64 + 64 + 64 + 64 = 256 games. For some squares there are two or more games (for example, there are eight games for mate on the h8 square), and there are estimated to be around 500 author's games in the book. He managed to complete this curious task in 2011, 42 years later. The book contains tournament games as well as blitz or free games. The games are either unannotated or with short notes, each of them accompanied by two diagrams, as shown in picture 2.
