The essay on Spassky's life and his sporting career full of ups and downs was written by Dmitry Oleynikov, curator of the Chess Museum of the Russian Chess Federation. Boris Spassky, 1937-2025, was one of the most popular chess players in history, a player with a very universal style; he defeated Tigran Petrosian in 1969 and became the tenth world champion, a title he lost in 1972 when he was defeated by Bobby Fischer in a famous match.
