The Fifth edition of Encyclopedia B is so revised and expanded that it comes in two volumes. This first part contains a part of the Sicilian Defence and also all openings where White begins 1.e4 and Black replies other moves than 1..e6 or 1..e5, for example Caro-Kann (B10-B19), Scandinavian (B01), Pirc (B06-B09), Alekhine (B02-B05) etc. In the Sicilian, the variations are discussed where White after 1.e4 c5 plays other moves than 2.Nf3, e.g. Alapin (1.e4 c5 2.c3), Morra gambit (2.d4) or Closed variation (2.Nc3). Then the lines after 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3, where Black does not play systems with d7-d6, e.g. Paulsen, Taimanov, Kan, Lasker-Sveshnikov, Rossolimo (2..Nc6 3.Bb5), Maroczy structures, Nimzowitsch (2..Nf6) etc. Analysis in Figurine algebraic.
