He was twice Ukrainian champion, in the final of the USSR championship in Moscow 1950 finished on 2nd-4th place with 11 points of 17 games. He won the games against the strongest Soviet players like Keres, Petrosjan, Smyslov, Kotov, Geller and others. According to Chessmetrics, in 1950 he would have been the 12th player in the world with a rating of 2700 points.
